Chapter Philanthropy

Phi Mu's founders felt so strongly about philanthropic actions that the first line in the Phi Mu Creed reads, "To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand." These words are not just a clever prose, rather a guiding principle for Phi Mu sisters everywhere. The tradition is carried on today throughout many of our chapter activities.

Phi Mu is the only sorority to be a corporate sponsor of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Supporting 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals nationwide, Phi Mu Fraternity has raised over $7 million since 1986, improving the quality of life for children everywhere.  The Theta Gamma chapter of Phi Mu works especially hard to raise money for this philanthropy.

Phi Mu has held the Miracle Cup at FIU's Dance Marathon in support of CMNH for the past 14 years in a row and in the 2016 Dance Marathon, our chapter raised over $20,000.

Niklaus Children's Hospital is Theta Gamma's local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Each year, our chapter visits the children at the hospital to read books, take gifts, or provide entertainment. Several sisters of our Theta Gamma Chapter spend their time volunteering at the hospital at least once a week as Bedside Buddies, helping out at the pharmacy, or providing entertainment at the hospital's radio station, Radio Lollipop.

Our chapter has had the opportunity to volunteer at large scale fundraising events hosted by the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation. These events include the the Hall of Fame Gala, where baseball player Mike Lowell was inducted into the Foundation's hall of fame for his generous contributions to Miami Children's Hospital. The Diamond Ball is an annual fundraising event put on by the hospital; some sisters were able to meet celebrities like Beyonce Knowles and Gloria Gaynor.

Philanthropy events hosted by our chapter include:

Our sisters also participate in other philanthropic activities throughout the year such as collecting canned goods for the FIU food pantry and volunteering in our community, and  assisting and supporting other sororities and fraternities with their philanthropic activities and events.

Sisters participated in Beta Breakdown, a dance competition that benefits American Cancer Society.

Our girls took home first place in Ruby Splash, an active swimming competition that raises awareness and funds for the Arthritis Foundation.

Krista walked in a fashion show that benefited ANAD, National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders.

Along with CMNH, we support the other philanthropies on campus, such as The Alzheimer's Association.
